Mataya(Know it) Inu ndị Igbo

Just like every endangered species, Igbo language has come under the threat of extinction, partly because of the level of immigration of our people to foreign lands, in search of better life, and because of the infiltration of other languages and cultures into ours, creating the assumption that speaking our language is a sign of illiteracy. This has become so powerful that learning Igbo language in school is classified as waste of time, energy and resources.

Not only is learning Igbo in school considered as aforementioned, some parents of Igbo extraction see teaching, or communicating with their children in Igbo as a disadvantage towards their children, thus you find children of Igbo parents, living and schooling in Igboland, who doesn't speak Igbo.

If this trend is allowed to continue, sooner or later, Igbo language - THIS RICH LANGUAGE- shall become a thing to be remembered in HISTORY books. But, we clearly say Tụfịakwa!

With this app Mataya, we intend to encourage every Igbo sons and daughters, to start learning in a very interesting and interactive way, the words of Proverbs, as they are spoken in Igboland with their meanings. It is our little way of contributing towards stopping the TREND that has come to erode of language, and ultimately our way of life. Tụfịakwa again!

The Mataya product contains 1000+ Igbo proverbs with their meaning, and the product will continue to include more proverbs as well as update existing ones to reflect and carry with it, the exact message intended for it to convey.

The product is designed to include the proverbs of other African tribes in the future, but for now, it’s concentrated on Igbo proverbs only.
